These are the looks we install most on residential garage doors. We order from CHI, which carries all of these in a range of colors and window options. Not replacing yet? Most doors that look tired only need hardware and spring work, and choosing a new door walks through when it is worth going further.

Raised Panel

The classic short-panel steel door that most homes already have. It suits nearly any house and is the safest choice when you want the door to blend in rather than stand out.

Recessed Panel

Simple inset panels instead of raised ones, which gives a flatter and tidier face. Understated, and an easy fit on traditional and transitional homes.

Stamped Shaker

Clean square recessed panels with the proportions of shaker cabinetry. It reads modern farmhouse and looks right on board-and-batten, shingle, and painted siding.

Stamped Carriage House

Carriage-house character pressed straight into the steel, so there are no overlay boards to seal or repaint. A good middle ground when you want the look without the upkeep.

Composite Overlay Carriage House

Dimensional overlay boards and decorative hardware on an insulated steel core, so it reads as real wood from the curb with none of the wood upkeep. The most detailed carriage option, and the one to pick when the garage doors are the front of the house.

Stained Wood Carriage

Stained wood carriage-style door with divided-light windows and a black metal awning above. Real wood, with the warmth and the maintenance that comes with it.

Grooved Contemporary Steel

Grooved contemporary steel lines in a wide range of colors. A clean, quiet face that suits newer builds and anywhere you want the door to look current without going all glass.

Flush Modern Panel

Completely smooth flush panels with no grooves at all, usually paired with a column of frosted glass. About as minimal and modern as a garage door face gets.

Horizontal Plank

Horizontal plank styling in steel woodtones or real wood, often with a vertical strip of frosted glass. Modern but warmer than a flat panel, and a good fit on contemporary and mid-century homes.

Weathered Wood-Look

Weathered wood-look finish with X-brace detailing and a row of top-panel windows. Rustic without being heavy, and it hides dust and pollen better than a solid color.

Full-View Glass

Glass fills most of the door face here, so the garage gets real daylight instead of one small window. The contemporary aluminum framing suits newer builds, and insulated versions keep an attached or heated garage from paying for all that glass.
